Minion Mania!

I was lucky to win tickets to a pre-screening from Edgars Club to one of one of the most anticipated animated movies of 2015, Minions. We were introduced to these yellow, pill shaped banana loving beings in the 2010 Illumination Entertainment film, Despicable Me and met up with them again in 2013 in Despicable Me 2. It wasn't long before these lovable characters got their own movie - You can see the 3 lead Minions auditioning at the end of Despicable Me 2's end credits for the film.

The director Pierre Coffin who brought us both Despicable Me and it's sequel also directed it's spin-off Minions. What's cool about this guy is he also voices all Minions. Others who worked on this film were writer Brian Lynch one of his, previous writing jobs was on the 2011 movie Puss in Boots. Together with Illumination Entertainment for Universal Pictures they put together a warm hearted family fun movie, released just in time for the school holidays.

The movie takes place 42 years before Gru from Despicable Me, the Minions Kevin, Stuart and Bob go on a mission to find the most despicable master they can find to save their tribe. The movie starts out at the beginning of time showing you the Minions journey. From their mere start as single-celled organisms to evolving into the hilarious yellow creatures we know and love today.

The main theme in this film is to save the Minions from depression, which can only be done by finding the most evil villain to serve. We get to watch the Kevin the leader of the mission who has also come up with this plan try to find a new master along side Stuart who is a bit of a rebel and Bob who is the most adorable Minion that you have ever seen.

The trio get into a lot of trouble but pull together in the end to make it out better than ever.  In this movie we are introduced to a new super villain Scarlet Overkill, voiced by Sandra Bullock. It brings a new perspective on the the whole movie and it is wonderful to see a bad ass female villain.

The Minions of course speak Minionese which is a mixture of English, French and other languages. Although most of us won't be able to fully understand what the Minions are saying, they made it really easy for us to follow the movie without it getting confusing. With visual cues and words that sound familiar to English words such as the simple 'Bello' means Hello!

All in all the movie will keep anyone who loves animation and the Minions entertained. It is a light hearted movie with a mix of surprises and tons of gags to keep you laughing almost through the whole movie.

Do remember to stay in your seat after the movie ends to catch some of the funny end credit scenes. You wouldn't want to miss this as it has a young version of a special someone in them!

I would like to say thank you to the Edgars Club and Ster-Kinekor for the tickets and the snacks. I had an awesome night!

Be sure to catch the Minions at Ster-Kinekor theatres releasing in theatres today the 10th of July 2015. If you would like to meet the Minions you can see them at various Ster-Kinekor theatres around the country. I know I will definitely be going to take some pictures with Kevin, Stuart and Bob!
