ADULT COLOURING BOOK
CREATIVITY

The latest craze that has been trending is Adult colouring books. Yes, now we as adults can finally colour in peace without anyone judging.

We're all familiar with colouring books - as kids a colouring book and a box of crayons could keep us busy for a couple hours which made us happy as well as our parents.

But now colouring books are not just for kids any more sophisticated colouring books have gained popularity with books stores stocking a wide range of them just for us adults. And just cause it's called 'Adult colouring books' doesn't mean it's of the censored nature.

The pages of an adult colouring book are filled with intricate or simple line drawings to colour in as a means of stress relief and art therapy.

I had seen Adult colouring books on social media about a year ago and thought that was something I wanted as an artistic and creative person the book seemed like something that would fit into my many forms of creative release.

I finally purchased an Adult colouring book after spotting it in a book store. I was very excited to get my first Adult colouring book not that I cared if it was for adults or not.

As a person who has sat in Spur and coloured to my hearts content while the manager thought the waiter was on something for handing me a bucket of crayons and a sheet of paper, I wasn't too concerned about the colouring book being for adults or not.

My interest in the colouring book was that it had swirls and lines that looked hypnotic. The pictures where quite intricate while others where simplistic. I love art and colours, my favourite part of painting or drawing is when I fill in the colours and the picture takes a whole different shape to the line drawing it started off as.

So when I got to the book store there were a few varieties to choose from, they had Chinese art with a dragon on the cover I almost couldn't resit to Mandalas and much more.

It was a hard decision but I decided to start myself off with The Mindfulness Colouring Book by Emma Farrarons. This book was smaller than the others and could easily fit into my handbag.

There are over 90 pages illustrated with patterns, scenes and templates. On the back of the book it states that the book "prompts you to meditate on your artwork as you mindfully fill the pages with colour.

I have read a few articles about Adult colouring books and some people seem to say that they are just a new money making fad. The illustrations are too extensive to allow any anti-stress stimuli and are not art therapy at all.

I can agree with some of those, claims as I was about to pay for the book another caught my eye. This one not only
had illustrations but words and phrases. I couldn't decide     between the two ans asked the book seller which she preferred. she pointed out that the one with words was more of a money making scheme. I took her advice and settled for my first choice

There are different types of Adult colouring books available interactive books that takes you on a journey, colouring challenges with drawings to complete and just plain drawings to colour in.  I liked that I didn't have to spend hours thinking of something to draw and only getting to the good bit of colouring later.

Sometimes you just want to colour! And that is what I've  done I've coloured, now I can't wait to finish the entire book because I know it's going to be really pretty when it's done.

Thanks for reading.
Ciao!

  1. Saw these in Bargain Books and Pick n Pay this week. Love the idea, even though they are quite expensive - but then again, so are kids colouring books, and not nearly so intricate! Looking forward to seeing some more photos of your completed pics!
