THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E
REVIEW

Once again I was lucky enough to win 2 tickets to the pre-screening of the comedy spy film The Man from U.N.C.L.E a day before it's release in cinemas from Ster-Kinekor in IMAX.

I had seen the trailer for the film a few months ago and it was on my list of up and coming movies to see this year. With other spy themed films out this year there is not much to expect than your basic run of the mill action, gadgets and maybe a little romance but The Man from U.N.C.L.E proved to be an entertaining movie, if you looked away for a second you might miss a key factor.

The movie is brought to us by Warner Brothers who gained the film rights from a 1960's American T.V series by the same name. If you are anything like me this is the first time you are hearing of The Man from U.N.C.L.E, so let me give you some background:

The Man from U.N.C.L.E series followed secret agents who worked for a law enforcement agency called United Network Command for Law Enforcement.

The show had such notability that different paraphernalia such as props, gadgets, video clips and more can be found in Ronald Reagans  Presidential Library on spies and counter spies.

The film is set in the 1960's and is directed by Guy Ritchie. Like the T.V series it follows 2 spies; an American and Russian spy have to team up to stop a nuclear bomb from being built and falling into the wrong hands.  They are the most unlikely pair to be working together but they put their differences aside for the greater good.

But what is a spy movie without a pretty girl to protect? In order for them to find out where the bomb is they have to protect the daughter of the man who creates these nuclear bombs. Sounds quite predicable but this film is filled with twists and surprises that catch you totally off guard.

The cast comprises of Henry Cavil who plays Superman, Armie Hammer who we've seen in films like the Social Network and The Lone Ranger. In the lead female role is Alicia Vikander from Seventh Son and (an older, but still handsome) Huge Grant.

The movie was nothing like I expected after seeing the trailer but it was a great spy movie non the less. The cinematography is excellent and I enjoyed the visual effects as well as camera angles that are not often used. I found that I quite enjoyed the soundtrack to the movie and I have definitely taken fashion inspiration from the lead female character. It being set in the 60's there were a lot of big hats earrings, sunnies and bright colours.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E has a 63% rating based on 83 views according to Rotten Tomatoes, not the best rating for a movie but it is enjoyable. I was kept entertained and I loved the visual aspects of the film from the stylish characters to the special effects.

The end of the film suggests that there might be a sequel to the The Man from U.N.C.L.E but I haven't heard any news as yet. It is a fun movie to watch if you like action, comedy and gadgets also it is nice to watch Henry Cavil on screen.

The film is being released at Ster-kinekor on Friday the 21st of August - It isn't one to be missed.
